COURSE OUTLINE
Practical and theory of art are to be fully integrated. Work will be tackled locally, then nationally and finally looking for links internationally. The emphasis is on Afrocentric art related to European Art.
The aim of the course is to educate the student through art, in doing so, to enrich him or her with a knowledge and appreciation of art. Further, the course aims to extend the personal experience of the student in the practice of art, stressing originality.
TYPE OF WORK
The Grade Ten year provides the student with opportunities for experimentation in the practical field and allows for the exploration of a wide range of media techniques and approaches. In Grade eleven and twelve, the approach is more specialised and intensified, with each student selecting a specific practical direction, e.g. Painting, Sculpture, Design, etc. The basis of the practical course is drawing and students are expected to develop a high degree of proficiency in this area of study.

SPECIAL NOTES
This subject relies heavily on the student’s own motivation and commitment.
There is considerable extra expense involved, as most art materials are imported and students taking the Art Course will be required to make purchases throughout the three years.
