Is the study of change and development in society over time and space. Its value lies, in part, in helping the learner to understand how past human action impacts on the present and influences the future.
As an academic discipline it develops the intellect, provides the learners with skills that have wide application in the workplace and produces individuals with the empathy and sensitivity to change the world for the better.
The study of History prepares Learners for a wide range of jobs and careers. Training in historical enquiry equips learners to research and analyse evidence, to organise ideas and to communicate these by constructing logical and coherent arguments in written or oral form.
It is particularly useful for careers in Tourism (Heritage Studies), management and administration, advertising and marketing; law, public relations and the media (Journalism).

Assessment of History reflects the skills based approach. The focus is on achieving 4 critical learning outcomes. Here the learner needs to show that they are efficient in acquiring and applying historical enquiry skills, able to use historical concepts in order to analyse the past, construct and communicate historical knowledge and finally to engage critically with issues around heritage. The subject is no longer essay-based.
